Meet Bryan

Bryan Fass, ATC, LAT, CSCS, EMT-P (ret.), has dedicated the past 10+ years to changing the culture of first responders from one of pain, injury, and disease to one of ergonomic excellence and first responder wellness. He has leveraged his 20-year career in sports medicine, athletic training, spine rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and as a paramedic to become the expert on pre-hospital patient & equipment handling, fire-EMS fitness and wellness. His company, Fit Responder, works nationally with departments to reduce injuries and improve fitness for first responders.

Bryan is frequently contacted for expert opinion and content contribution for all aspects of public safety fitness, ergonomics and wellness. Bryan authored the Fit Responder book used by departments and schools plus writes for numerous web and peer-reviewed journals including the National Strength & Conditioning Associations Tactical Strength & Conditioning journal, officer.com, ems-1.com, fire Engineering, EMS World & JEMS. Bryan holds a bachelors’ degree in sports medicine with over 17 years of clinical practice, was a paramedic for over 8 years, and is certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC, LAT), Strength Coach (CSCS). Fit Responder developed the nation’s first validated pre-hire Physical Abilities Test for EMS.

Bryan founded Fit Responder in 1998 to meet the risk, safety, fitness, wellness and training needs of departments nationally. Fit Responder is a trusted partner in the insurance industry working with risk pools, workers compensation funds, insurance brokers and third party administrators.

Branden Huskey, AS, TSAC-F

Branden Husky began his fire service career in 1992 as a Volunteer Firefighter with the City of Goodyear Fire Department.  He became a career firefighter in June of 1995.  Branden was promoted to Captain in the fall of 2002 and is currently serving on an engine company.  From 2003-2007 Branden served as the United Goodyear Firefighters Local 4005 President. Branden has worked from the FF to Battalion Chief position, he is a true advocate for Fire-EMS fitness and wellness.

Branden received his associate’s degree in Fire Science from Phoenix Community College and is currently working towards a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science through Grand Canyon University.  In May of 2016 Branden completed the TSAC-F practitioners course through the NSCA.

Glenn R. Jones

Glenn has overseen physical fitness programming for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Charlotte Fire Department for over 28 years.  He has consulted with numerous agencies regarding the legal and practical ramifications of physical ability standards and programming, health promotion programming, and facility design.  Glenn has led or assisted with test validation for local, State, and national organizations and has served as an expert witness.  Glenn has authored numerous articles related to public safety fitness programming and has been a presenter at the Redmond Symposium and the North Carolina Justice Academy.

Bruce Mills

Bruce is a 35 year veteran public safety professional. Starting his career at the age of 14 while still in high school where he received his EMT certification. After attending Clarion University he received his Paramedic training at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Bruce has worked for Central County Ambulance Clarion PA. 1979 – 1988, Brookville Ambulance Service Brookville PA 1986 – 1991, Emergycare Inc. Erie PA 1989 – 1997 and Mecklenburg EMS Agency aka Medic Charlotte NC – 1997 – present.

Jon Dunham

Jon has a combined 25 years’ public safety experience. First with 17 years in EMS as a crew chief and FTO. Jon has managed a wide variety of complicated scenarios to include severe trauma, mass casualties and a wide array of medical emergencies. Then over 12 years of law enforcement as a police training officer; he has responded to a wide array of scenarios to include high risk warrants, barricaded subjects, suicidal subjects, homicides, suicides and violent crime. Jon was awarded officer of the month 3 times. Jon holds an advanced law Enforcement certificate with a master of science in police administration plus 10 years of martial arts and defensive tactics. Jon has been shot in the line of duty and battles PTSD daily, he offers an inspiring class on officer survival along with combatives training.

Kent R. Spitler, MSEd, RN, NRP, CPP

Kent Spitler is an education administrator serving as a department chair and director for emergency medical services education in North Carolina.   He is a certified program planner through LERN, received and Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Technology-Paramedic and Registered Nursing, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Healthcare Management, and a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership. During the last 42 years Kent has worked as a firefighter and paramedic, EMS system training officer, EMS chief officer, emergency department registered nurse, clinical educator, and instructional faculty.  Kent has served on several local, regional and national committees and is involved in EMS research as a principle investigator, conducted book reviews for fire and EMS, prepared and received several state and federal grants.  Kent is an active member of the National Association of EMS Educators, North Carolina Community College System EMS Advisory Committee member and serves as a consultant for curriculum planning, design, and implementation.
